It's Friday night, so it's journal time. Or at least I'm trying to establish a regular update time.
All right, what's happened since last I wrote?

- Lots of scary stuff happening today. You got earthquakes, acts of terror, and a general feeling of uneasiness. Do whatever you can to stay safe, guys. Also do whatever you can to help out those in need in any way you can.
- We got a Nintendo Direct yesterday. It was the first one since June, and I found it quite enjoyable. From imminent stuff like Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon to spring releases like Star Fox Zero and the newly announced The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, I could see myself playing just about everything they showed there. The show even ended with a Smash Bros. announcement I did not see coming at all.
- Second week of work is in the books. I'm getting along well with my coworkers, I'm enjoying the work I do, and I feel like I am contributing to the paper and bettering myself in the process. I certainly will do my best from here.
- Not a lot of movie-viewing time lately. A mixture of being unable to see some movies and lacking the motivation to do it. Though I do figure I want to watch at least one a week. With the holidays around the corner, that will take up the schedule a bit. It's almost Thanksgiving, so a viewing of the sort-of holiday movie Paul Blart: Mall Cop was in order. I know its reputation, but I've quite a soft spot for it. For what the movie is, I gave it 4 out of 5 on Letterboxd. The sequel is up next week, and I'm well aware of that film's reception.
- After years of it being on my Xbox 360, I finished the final add-on story for Fallout: New Vegas. That game remains one of the most immersive, engaging experiences I've had on a console. If Fallout 4 is half as good, I think I'll be playing that one for a long time. Aside from that, gaming consisted of selling turnips in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and the occasional Smash Bros. match.
- Today started off well enough and I did want to do a few things this afternoon. But what derailed my mood and motivation? Family business. Ever want to see me legitimately angry, just tag along with me when I have to deal with them...
- Still mauling over what TV show to check out next. After deciding on one, it's finding motivation to follow through.
- Cardinals play the Seahawks on Sunday night. I'm slightly terrified.
Life goes on. There's good times and bad times, so take what you can from both.
Hope you're staying warm,

Cody's Top 10 (and Bottom 1) Films of 2017
The first full year of the Trump era is behind us. Only seven more to go! But even in these tumultuous times, I got to see quite a few movies this year and decided on my favorites (and one worst).
10. Wonder Woman - More than boasting a different color palette than the other recent DC movies and one of my favorite action scenes of the year, it was the wholesome performance by its star Gal Gadot that made this my favorite comic book movie of the year.
9. Blade Runner 2049 - Harrison Ford skipped the next chapter of the Star Wars reunion to hang out with Ryan Gosling, and I think he made the right move. The film introduced new pieces of lore
New Danny Phantom (sort of) in 2017??
If you're like me, your first thought was "Say whaaaaaaat??"
Granted, it's only for a few minutes and more of an ad for Mr. Hartman's upcoming show but I must admit it was pretty nostalgic to see. My first online fandom being briefly resurrected with some advancements in animation, most notably high definition, did bring some unexpected delight on this day.
Will it go anywhere? I've been on this ride enough times to say probably not, but hope springs eternal, I suppose.
25 Years, 25 Games: Perfect Dark (2000)
Starting off with my song of choice from this game.
Sometimes summer breaks are defined by one piece of fun.
A certain trip, a certain location, or a certain object could have dominated an entire summer, and thinking about it takes you back to that time frame. It may not be the item itself, it could be that emotional response that was stirred as a result.
Rocket launchers and pinball grenades made such an impression on me at a younger age. Such items were first shown to me in Rare’s follow-up N64 FPS, Perfect Dark.
People looked like this once.
GoldenEye was not the first console FPS, but it was the first one to leave a significant i
25 Years, 25 Games: Pokemon Gold/Silver (1999)
Starting off with my song of choice from this game.
(Once again, I’m fiddling with release dates here. Lets me talk about something, so it’s okay!)
Lately I’ve been writing about how I’ve been introduced to a game series. But I think what is even more important than an introduction is the entry that gets you hooked.
Star Fox 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time were both games that I enjoyed and would hold in high regard for a long time, but future entries of varying quality would still get a fair shake from me. The same can be said for many of the other franchises I’ve come across. You have a chance to g

If you haven't already, I would recommend playing Fallout 3 before graduating to 4. New Vegas is more of a standalone title, even though chronologically it falls between the other two. I have been playing Fallout 4 for the past week, and it is definitely worth the 60 bucks, but it makes more sense if you've played 3 first.
